    Stop taking the film literally! It is an ALLEGORY. You theory is ridiculous. The whole concept of partners being matched by some random common distinguishing feature IS A METAPHOR for falling in romantic love. If David does blind himself, then the couple could carry on living in the society comfortably without being challenged - i.e. their romantic attraction has been vouchsafed by sacrifice. Or, alternatively, just like David was outed by the uncaring woman, his attempt to fake compatibility by blinding himself just in order to match up is futile and their partnership is doomed to crumble - as it surely would, all the sooner, if he doesn't blind himaself and fakes being blind. Lanthimos is asking question THROUGH ALLEGORY and he is not providing answers. His films are not, sit down and enjoy this experiences, they are properly provoking films that demand that you think for yourself. The hotel ISN'T like a MARRIAGE/RELATIONSHIP GUIDANCE facility, how could you possibly wonder why his former partner wasn't there too? It's an ALLEGORY for the period that young people can comfortably remain as singles in our society before there starts to be pressure on them to get a partner (the 45 days of the film). About the hunts: the singles from the hotel are killing the rebel singles for extra-days reprieve corresponds to singles having a real world, short-lasting relationshio that selfishly ruins the partner's life but puts off the day that they are again going to be hectored to find a new partner. 101 Dalmations ha, ha, ha - not Room 101 in George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984, where Big Brother watches you all the time, then? I'm beginning to think that you can tell who really understands what Lanthimos' films are about (and I'm not saying that I do - but I am saying that I know what they are NOT about - they are not quirky comedies to be laughed at), by how they react to the kicking the little girl scene. If you think that is hilarious, then you are not watching the film in the right register to attempt to understand it. Go watch, Dogtooth or the recently released, Kinds of Kindness. Not because you will enjoy them, but because they will make you think. And realise that they are not literal, they are not stories.

    Watching it now, and until 1:10h into the “documentary” I actually thought it was all real. Then the “monster” showed up and I immediately laughed. The buildup was so good, just for them to ruin it with this Party City mask. If they had just kept the “final footage” to a minimum, this could easily be passed off as a true story.

    🔥 video my guy. I wish yall woulda dove into the making of that Infinite beat. I been searching for that sample for well over 10yrs…Denaun chopped that so well you can’t make out the sample. Nvm his bass being so well mixed you can’t make out if it’s a live recording from Bass bros or Denaun found a sample for that too. Fukn amazing production.

    • @traceybaby7130
      @traceybaby7130 6 дней назад

      I am guessing it is because the real Ethan chose the fake Sophie, so it granted her permission. I'm still confused because I thought the fake Ethan and Sophie were supposed to leave together and replace them. But the fake Sophie had mentioned only two of them could leave that night, so I am guessing it didn't matter which two.

    I actually like the remake better (I watched it first) pretty much for the reason you like the original lol. The subtle decisions to lean into “this woman isn’t the mom”. It 1. Helps “distract” the viewer from what might’ve otherwise been obvious tells Lukas is imaginary and 2. It creates a nice psychological battle between Elias’ perspective and the Mom’s perspective that helps keep tension in the film up until pretty much the barn scene in the end. Also there’s a deep uneasiness that I felt watching the likely imposter, try to “pretend” to be the mom. It felt far more creepy than the motif of cockroaches that the original used instead to make the same point “somethings wrong here” Also the tension between Lukas and Elias in the end right before Elias decides to release the mom was really good. The original is far more beautiful and better shot, and has some deeper symbolism (like the boys going to the priest or God, when they start to strongly suspect the mom is an imposter, then when God ignores them, they turn to torture or the devil to deal with the issue) but bc I never really felt the mom could actually be an imposter I wasn’t as psychologically engaged. i think in my ideal world the writing and leanings of the remake would be reshot with some of the artistry of the original. Also. I liked feeling more empathy for Elias in the remake as opposed to just watching a weird quiet kid roam around, as I felt watching the original. Tbf yhe original’s Elias did seem more capable of torture and even delusion but like I said, he was harder to connect to

    This has nothing to do with not paying people. Its about deepfakes and AI generated content being used to, in this case, commit character assassination. And its right on target. This is most likely happening today. Not in real time like the show but its definitely a thing Ever wonder how sometimes biden cant complete one coherent sentence and others he can stand and give a two hour State of the Union address without a single hiccup?
